Reliable hard spot detection on heavy plates
HAScan is a specialized testing method for detecting locally hardened zones (hard spots) in the surface area of hot-rolled steel products. The inspection is based on a two-stage testing process in accordance with DIN 4863, ensuring both fast detection and reliable verification of anomalies.
In the first step, the HAScan inspection precisely and contact-free detects local material inhomogeneities. Detected areas are then verified and classified using mobile hardness testing — providing clear confirmation of indications and assessment against permissible limits.
The method is specifically designed for steel products in which so-called hard spots may occur during manufacturing or subsequent processing. A typical application is the inspection of heavy plates for linepipe applications in the offshore sector, where the highest demands on material homogeneity and weldability apply.
HAScan is suitable both for offline testing during production using a mobile inspection carriage (e.g., on trimmed heavy plates) and for inline use with an automated inspection trolley directly within the production line.
